Tory Miller

Chef/Owner of Deja Food Restaurant Group

James Beard “Best Chef: Midwest” Winner
Livestreamed from Madison, WI

About the Host

To put it simply, Chef Tory Miller has reached the pinnacle of his profession. His three high-profile restaurants in Madison, Wisconsin—L’Etoile, Graze, and Estrellón—are drawing national attention. He won James Beard’s ultra-prestigious “Best Chef: Midwest” Award in 2012. And, he took down “unbeatable” Iron Chef Bobby Flay on Food Network’s “Iron Chef Showdown,” advancing his reputation significantly. Born in South Korea, Miller was adopted at the age of 18 months and was raised in Racine, Wisconsin, where he worked in his grandparents’ diner. In 2ooo, he graduated second in his class from the renowned French Culinary Institute in New York and cut his teeth in the kitchen of NYC’s three-Michelin starred fine dining establishment, Eleven Madison Park. There is so much to learn from this man, who is such a strong believer in locally grown, sustainable, organic ingredients, and we are incredibly excited to have him on board for this chefstream!

We are very pro Tory Miller house and have been to all of his restaurants. It was great to hang out with him for an hour and cook his inspired food. Though the cooking went fast, Tory and the host did a great job filling time and letting people catch up. Thank you for the great recipes!

Chef Tory's bibimbap is a personal favorite to have at Graze, its now added to the list of recipes I have from him to make people think i can actually cook

So fun. So we'll instructed. And...simply it's Tory Miller! What's not to love. We used this Neal prep as our final dinner with our college students the night before they moved back to campus (not sure for how long). Loved that we all made it with Tory in our house!

The dishes were spot on an incredibly flavorful. This was our first Chefstreams experience, so we felt a bit overwhelmed despite having prepped in advance as instructed. Love the concept!

Although the Chef Tory went a little too quickly at times he was fun, had a great sense of humor and gave excellent information on products and cooking methods. The meal was delicious and I can definitely recreate it.

I did not cook along this time and now I think perhaps that is my preferred way to participate.

Written plus demonstrated instruction, q&a options, access to recording of class. Very tasty and beautiful food, and was something I could not have figured out myself. Tory was charming and funny, and explained things well when clarifications were requested. Enjoyable and informative.

Quality of the live feed (audio and camera setup), great communication skills by Chef Tory, ease with which we could interact via Q&A feature.

I loved watching and listening to Tory, but the disconnect between the visual and the auditory was very distracting. Even so, his presentation was outstanding!

good pace, interesting but not over-the-top food

This was our first time doing a ChefStreams class, so we were really excited, especially since Tory is a Madison chef and that's where we live. Prepping the things beforehand is KEY, so we are glad we did that. It was a bit chaotic at some point, but I appreciated that we paused sometimes.

Chef Tory is a natural teacher. He is laid back, but also provides some really solid cooking instruction and answers to questions. He was the best and I would pay again to watch another class with him.

Dishes were great. Easy, but came out with complex flavors and great visual. Narrator/host was also great. Good questions.

Chef Miller was very personable, provided clear directions, and was well organized. While I didn't cook along with him during the presentation, I intend to make those dishes in the near future. I live near Madison and have been to his restaurants many times.
Dr. R.

He explained the steps very well and had substitutes in mind for ingredients. Overall it was engaging.

It was fun and I did it for the entertainment value. This was my first time doing anything like this. I really love Chef Tori's work and restaurants which is why I joined this session. It was more stressful than I expected, and I consider myself pretty laid-back and experienced in the kitchen! I would have to think further as to how to improve the experience, but giving a clear overview first may help and giving a sense of what we are making for how long/proportion of the time.
